Hey Guys,

I?ll be in the UK in a couple weeks and am thinking about having a panel
made at Schaeffer and and having it shipping to the place I?ll be staying in
the UK.

Has anyone in the UK used Schaeffer before? Was the shipping fair, and were
their customs to pay on the panel? Are there any companies in the UK that
you know for that might be able to do this in house?

Likewise I?m also interested in picking up some rack cases while there and
it seems Holt is the place, though the cases look grey/white not black. Any
ideas in the UK where else I could try and find some 1 and 2U racks?

Thanks

Matt

I buy from Holt - the cases are greyish....
But call them - they are very friendly

Bryant do black

AFAIK - Holt and Bryant both do engraving

BTW - where in the UK (please tell me it's not one of those bloody boats on the Thames that sells Castle)

Hah hah,

Nope, no boats, no Castle :) I will however be near the Thames though,
Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey.

Most of my family live in the UK (along with half of South Africa) and so
I?ll be going over for 3 weeks mid Dec to early Jan. I hope we can have
another DIY get together, I?m trying to twist Neeno?s arm into coming over
to London as well, so it would truly be an international get together.

From the looks of thing even the Bryant cases are a silver, just the option
for a black front panel. I?ll look into it further, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks Kruz, I?ll drop him a mail, his prices look REALLY good.

Cheers

Matt

aahhh.
You want the whole case to be black not just the front panel

Kingston - if you get into probs - give us a shout, I went drinking with the coppers down Kingston nick a while back (my mate from waaay back, is/was one of the desk sergeants)
Hey Matta,
You should contact this guy:
http://monopole.ph.qmul.ac.uk/~thomas/synthdiy/cnc.htm
His preferred file format IS .fdp (the native Schaeffer program format)
and he should have better prices too.
I can't tell you if his works are fine, but i'm planning to do few things from him in the near future
many thanks
I am all over that web site like flies around sh*t..
He now has the keys to my bank account the amount of work I am sending him

Hey Rob,

Will do! I just want to see if Neeno is going to make it, I'll know in
November. Once I have his dates we can nail down a date and up somewhere!

I'll post in the Brewery on that.

Cheers

Matt

Guys,

RE the engraving contact Kruz gave us...

I tried both the Steve?s contact e-mail addresses, both don?t exist and looking at
the update at the bottom of the page the site has not been updated in a year
:-(

Kruz, have you been in contact with him, or anyone know how to get in touch
with him or if he is even doing it anymore?

Matt

Matt, i don't know about that guy.. still need to contact him by myself.
About Holt, i once had a brief email chat with them about a custom job, and they even sent me a cad file of one of their product.. i seem to remember that they are not lighting fast at emails, it was almost 2 years ago.

Matt
I sent an email to Steve Thomas (the email on the web site)
He replied to me over the weekend
Here is his reply....

Hi Simon..well the best (and free) software to use is frontpaneldesigner which you can downlaod from
http://www.schaeffer-ag.de/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=205

I bought a dxf export filter from them that allows me to convert any .fpd file to the cad format dxf file. I need the latter in order to be able to engrave using my cnc machine.

FPD is quite a simple interface ..much easier to use than autocad etc. You can also find lots of ready designed panels (eg neve, calrec, manley etc clones) on the web from which you can cut and paste stuff from. Most if not all of my customers now send me fpd files to engrave.

cheers
steve

So its all go on my part!!!!!

AWESOME NEWS!

Simon, please PM the address you used, the only one I didn?t try was the PayPal
address. Both the others came back as undeliverable :-( I?m REALLY excited
about this one!

I have an 1176 style panel I?d like to get done and that electric blue metal
he has looks cool!

Thanks

Matt

HAH HAH!

Kruz... NO! LOL, in my excitement I just mailed him with the No Spam....
You?d think I?d know better being a Web Designer... And been a Senior
Designer working for 7 years.... Oh well... I?m a moron! LOL

Matt

eheheheh..
well, matt, i tought the same.. that you were so exited that you overlooked that little thing :green:
i was right

BTW - With HOlt
I can;t praiswe them enough - I emailed and then phoned
I ended up talking to Mr Holt (Alan?) and the Sales Manager...
To be quite honest I nearly ended up with two sets of custom stuff
Turnaround on the custom stuff was within the week (and no payment up front - I must have charmed them)
