There's a page in John Linsley-Hood's Valve and Transistor Audio Amplifiers which offers a summary of the Baxandall article. It's not as good as being able to read the complete article, but at least it's a tantalizing fragment.

Why do you say that?

Since the example used in the article was, I understand, a FET amplifier, I doubt the article was written in the early '50s.
