as well as the amp with the four opamps per channel i posted about a few weeks ago, i also made one with a single lme49600. can't recommend it highly enough, it sounds fantastic and needs only a handful of components. soldering the smt parts is certainly do-able. too bad the lme49600 are expensive. buf634 is the older but exact same part, it was available in soic, but also dil. you can still get them on ebay for a third of what the lme parts cost.

After building it I realize that even 6dB of gain is too much and just one LME49600 per channel would be plenty. You need a good power supply for it though, according to the data sheet.

Are you using two in parallel, or is it balanced output (for which you need to rewire your headphones)?

The LME49600's are wired in parallel, both driven by a single LME49710, per channel. I didn't make the board. It came that way.

Is that the evaluation board, or a board for "the wire" from diyaudio.com?

No, I got it from Jim's Audio in China:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Low-distortion-0-0001-preamplifier-headphone-amp-/220986748892?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3373d62fdc

The schematic has too much gain in my opinion, but the quality of the board is very good. The holes are plated through and everything is gold plated. It performs well for me. The board is completely dual mono. Everything is separated, including the power supply. I used two of the "Kubota" regulators for this amp, also from Jim's Audio.

"The Wire" (a presumptuous name in my opinion) has one LME49600 per channel. I don't know much else about it.
