Passive summing box PCBs (16-2)?
« on: June 16, 2012, 06:04:00 AM »
Hi All,

Have done a bit of a search but couldn't find anyone selling any PCBs for a passive summing box similar to the Folcrom or DAV units.  I recently bought an extra 8 DA outs to give 16 out and want to see if I get a noticeable improvement in sound by mixing this way and thought a DIY approach would be good. (Make up gain through a reasonable stereo preamp).  Am not inclined to wire up DB25s but happy to solder up an angled connector to a PCB should such a beast exist!

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Mike

I have seen several threads about home built passive mixers but I don't recall seeing one which included a PCB.

Cheers

There was the 'sumthing' pcb - 16x2 pcb similar to the rolls.

But that was offered maybe 6years ago or so.

Haven't seen one on the market for years.
I ping therefore I am

Here is the Sumthing thread with a link to jtools files for board fabrication as well as home etch.

A PCB that size will be rather pricey for a 1 off.  Sometimes easy DIY isn't the cheapest......I've wired db25 connectors before and if you go in with a process in mind and stick with it you'll have it done in no time.

Thanks, guys. Will check out costs for that Sumthing board although that plus case + switches starts to move towards a few £ which might be better put towards something like this http://www.kmraudio.com/brands/dav-electronics/dav-summing-mixer.php

Hey Mike C.

It was our quest to find a PCB board to build an Analog Summing Mixer that lead to
launching Unit Audio. We simply could not find a PCB board for that configuration,
so we built our own. If you are determined to build your own, good for you. If you
want to check out our inexpensive Analog Summing Mixers, you can see them at
www.unitauduio.com.

Good Luck

The sumthing links are no longer working.

I'm interested in pcbs as well, though would prefer 24 or 32 channels.
