Thanks to much help from this forum, I am now the proud owner
of two working 1176's. Both Jakob's boards The dual 1176, built
from mnats boards, is still in fault checking limbo. It passes signal,
but not until the in and out pots are past 12 0' clock. The signal is
also distorted. This is the same for both boards.

Here you can see the inside of the dual.

Be careful to measure the ratio and meter pcb's correctly. I didn't and
had to order a new frontpanel.

Here is the inside of my G9 awaiting me to figure out how to put the
power trannies in. They are avel lindberg model # Y236103.

If anyone has used those trannies and could help with install I would
greatly appreciate it.

Here is my Mic in progress. Got a Peluso cap, lundahl transformer and Neumann tube waiting for a home.

Thanks again to each and every member of this forum for creating a community that allows people like me with little electronics experience to build equipment I do not see myself being able to afford at its street price anytime soon.

If anyone has had similar problems with their MNATS 1176 boards let
me know.
If anyone could tell me what to do with the two "extra" primaries on the
power trannies that would also be very helpful.

Thanks Again,
Cletus

Cant help you out with the problem, but Great looking stuff

THAT's a lot off great looking stuff.
How long did it take you to build all this?

About your trannie: I'm not sure but it might be that your trannie is suited for 110V AC AND 220V AC. When used for 110 AC you wire the primaries parallel and for 220V AC in series.
Can someone else comfirm this cause I'm not really sure and 110/220 V AC is not to be fidlled around with....

Thanks dudes.
It's taken over a year. Get some money, buy a meter. Get some
more money, buy 4 lundahls. Get some more money.....etc.
I'm really impressed with the sound of the 1176's.
I thought I had worked out my power supply issues for the G9. Hooked it up and........power! Then........no Power! Now I need to check
to see if I blew anything. I can't wait to get it working.

So I think I figured out how to correctly install the power trannies.
Still the G9 powers and then slowly shuts down. I believe becasue the
7812 regulator is overheating? I'm going to start a new thread and see
if someone can point me to the light.
take care,

no beer in that glass..

unless of course you drank it.. :thumb:

the Vregs have a habit of shutting down quickly, maybe caps are letting the voltage down slowly? you'll know when the Vregs are shutting down because they are hotter than shit!

hook a meter up with some leads and watch the voltage output.. do the same for the input. Vregs don't like to see more than 36v or so. usually around 5 volts above the output is good with plenty of capacitance.

You talking about the caps made me look closer. I had 3 1000uf 25v
caps (C13, C16, C17) instead of the specified 1000uf 35v by diodes 13-16 in the power supply section of the pcb. I'm not sure if it was them damn 10v or talking sweetly to the voltage regulator, but the unit is still powered strong and sitting on my kitchen table.

For anyone building a G9, pay close attention to the voltage regulator 7812. I had it mounted on the same heatsink, but didn't use the clear plastic back and special plastic washer. I went to radio shack today and got some mounting hardware that included that special washer with a bottom ridge that fit down in the hole of the regulator and that nice special plastic back that the regulator lies on. Now she's correctly isolated. No, now I know what correctly isolating is. Now she's hot but not shutting down my s#%t. It was crazy watching the G9 turn on and then just slowly die. Enough to bring a tear to a person's eye.

So the G9 still doesn't work though. Tomorrow I will check all my wiring
from the front panel pcbs to the board. She's on and glowing but she doesn't want to talk.

Hopefullly I'll be back soon with good news!
take care,
cletus
