I had the pleasure of working with Allen around 1996. We were tracking piano and orchestra for a couple Aaron Neville songs I was co-producing. Allen engineered the orchestra session at A&M and chided me for using ADATs to transfer my midi tracks to the 2-inch tape for the tracking session. Only after I promised to mix the songs from his original 2-inch tape did he relax a bit. I learned a lot about miking, listening to the orchestra, and communicating with the conductor and players during those sessions.

I have since tracked and mixed many songs in Ocean Way Record One and Ocean Way on Sunset ( now United Recording and mostly unavailable for booking). Both great facilities with great gear and personnel! Vintage Neves, lots of API racks, tons of DBX 175s, customized SSL 9000 and a modified Focusrite console that is heaven to work on. Oh yeah, Allen’s custom monitors, as icing on the cake.
