Is that with or without MosFET? A source follower normally needs more current...

Without the source follower

Perhaps these are artifacts of the NE555 PSU. I was never satisfied with this type of PSU. Maybe it's just me, but there are better solutions, even for pedals.

Really? Can you point me out to some please?

Cheers

Bumpety pretty bump......
Sorry Sono, somehow I overlooked your question.

In my opinion, this PSU solution is much better and more flexible than the 555 circuit. I have tried both and in direct comparison this one is preferable. With a little extra filtering you can achieve a very good quality HT voltage.

Have also a look at this and that.

The only thing you should avoid is close proximity to transducers, pickups and unshielded signal transformers.

Hi again,

I bought a couple of the PSUs you linked. I haven't had the time to hook it up but on first look this thing is basically the same design as the 555 isn't it? Why would it not hiss or hiss less (supposing the hiss actually comes from the PSU).
Is there any other thing I can check as a cause for that hiss? I'd really like it to be quiet as a mouse :)

Thanks!
Cheers

Well, a 555 is not on my circuit board ;-) I can't say exactly whether these circuits are very similar or not, I can only describe my experience with them.

The PCBs you just bought are quieter, with a bit of downstream filtering they are pretty good, as described.

In my opinion, the only real problem that can arise is the close proximity to sensitive components in your pedal, as described. You'll see how it behaves.

You can also shield the whole PSU PCB additionally, a little helps a lot. Of course, I can't give you any guarantee for success, but I am confident.

In any case, keep us posted on how things turn out. Good luck! (y)
