Hello,

These days I've been working on a PCB version for the Altec 436C Compressor.

here is a link to the redrawn schematic :

And here is a link to the PCB design I have so far:

I'm new to PCB design so any advice is more than welcome. If anybody of you have sugestion about possible mod, just let me know.

If this project comes to something interessing, I wil probably be offreing PCB to the community.

Thanks

I was gonna do this p2p but wouldn't mind a pcb. How big is that pcb btw?

Mod wise there's a jungle of guesses around the abbey road mods, the rs124.
The hold function and the balance trick are at least visible from the front. The latter should be a good idea and pretty doable.
Do you have the 'recording the beatles' book? It has some info about it.
I have 438A....
I also have A and C but B version is nowhere to find ...

I know Brian Roth(tape op admin) has it.
Seems like a nice guy.

Wasn't there some talk about a hold function on those Altec EMI modded compressors or was that done on the Fairchilds?

From the website concerning these units, which I assume was pulled down at someones request. Someone will probably now ask me to expunge this post. Nothing earth-shattering here; lots of small tweaks. Hold circuit is most significant, and simply disconnects the release resistor from B-.

THANKS!

I've landed on that page a bunch of times and went "dang, I wonder what it said"
