Hi Guys,

Recently I fired up my Green pre for the first time.
There was sound(in a positive way)….. then there was smoke…. and then there was the sound of a china cracker going of in my room, except it wasn't a china cracker but a 10uf 63v cap on my green pre PSU.
I'm a little afraid that it might happen again if I just replace the cap with a similar one.
Has this happened before to someone?

I'll try to replace the cap first and double check it on polarity.
I think the wiring should be all right… I've done it same as discussed on the forum.
But i'm not 100% confident about it. Any suggestions what to double check for?

Hi Peter,

It could have been that I used a cheap component with to big of a margin. (perhaps 20%...)
A similar one that I used as a replacement is still holding it.
I might want to replace it with a 100v. To be safe for the future  8).

Cheers,

Lucas

I wanted to run this by the pro's here. The part list for the PSU estimates $20 for the 6VA 115 15 transformer, but I found one on mouser made by Hammond Mfg. that is universal 115/230 primary (good since i live in EU but may move to the states at some point) , 6VA, and 30 secondary, 15 parallel.  It's for about $12.50 but want to make sure this is a good quality transformer.

All opinions appreciated =)

Cheers
