Uhhh...sounds good to me...trick question?

Yeah, I would assume that's the case.
I wish it was a trick! You just never know, you know?? I didn't know if that diode might have some other need/use.

As for the G1176 list...I'd like to have one of those too, that's my next project...

Guys....got my boards yesterday from gustav and today the first bunch of components showed up. I ordered 1/2W metal film for most of the values.......my advice...go for 1/4W. the 1/2Ws are a hair to big to fit elegantly on the board in some of the highdensity spots, it can be done but it's a little unsightly.

I've been getting some e-mails and PMs regarding the parts list I have for the G-SSL. Here it is in PDF.

yeah, is there a reason people are using 1.5w resistors? i used 1/4w. Most everything came from mouser with no sweat. I bought all the transistors/diodes from newark. the transformer came from digikey but i ordered that with my ssl parts a while ago. just gotta get the boxes and the trannys now..

Did you mean 0.5W (1/2W) resistors? I didn't use them for any particular reason. But I do like soldering the 1/2W better because they fit a little more snug in the PCB. I remember Gyraf saying 1/4W are fine.

Thanks for your generous contribution! Also nice to see the total cost... this is going to be my next project soon! ... after the other ones.

Using the Behringer, the cost of the SSL Clone can be kept around $250 including all shipping costs. A Sifam would bump you into the $300-$325 range. The only other expense would be labeling/engraving... and that can vary.

What Mouser part number did you find??? HairyAndy and I are still compiling a list of suitable parts, so it would be nice to find more meters to choose from.

I'm in the process of moving right now, and DIY has been packed up for a couple weeks. After that, I'm VERY close to finishing my comp. I've already got half the holes drilled in my case. All I have left to do is finish connecting the XLR's, the control board to the main PCB, and test it! After that Hairyandy and I will finalize our lists and he'll post them to the web for everyone. So, if anyone has any alternate parts, like the meter, which is expensive, that would be great info to have!!

Thanks! :guinness: :guinness:

Cool, let us know how that meter works out, that would be the most cost effective meter found to date!!

Not sure if everyone knew this, but I found out today that jaycar has a US website after a sales rep emailed me back to inform me.

I downloaded Greg's Parts list. Thanks Greg you rule !!

But I made a few changes to it that I thought might work.

Deleted :
XLR connectors (I felt 1/4" connectors would be better for me)
Behringer VU
50K Lin 6mm POTs (these are the mini, knobs and holes don't fit)
Red LED

Added: (all from Mouser)
Edge Meter 541-ME-DMA-001 (from post above)
Brite Blue LED 604-L7113QBC/D (gotta love those blinding blues!)
50K Lin POT 31VA405 (these are the regular old size)

Just thought I'd post these alternatives.

I have a concern with the Power supply transformer choosen.

The one on Greg's list is TE62063-ND 115VAC : 18VDC

My concern is the operating temperature. I used the TE2062-ND in my Pultec design and seems to run very hot. Fry your breakfast hot!

Is this a concern? Right now I only turn on the Pultec when I want to use it and I am concerned that I cannot put it into my rack unless I install a fan in the chassis.

Any comments or suggested alternatives?

Thanks

is the parts list that i downloaded in pdf format the right one for the SSL that i purchased the PCB's for?

Hey ChuckD, let us know how that meter works out! That's a great, much cheaper alternative. Especially since the Behringer doesn't seem to track perfectly.

Frob, which PCB did you get? Was it one of Gustav's? If so, the parts listed here from Greg and at the beginning of the post are the correct parts.

are the Lorlins we get for the SSLs 1/4 inch or 6MM?

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/LN-800005.pdf

I've been using some knobs I had lying around, but I'm thinking about getting some collet knobs and want to know the exact size...I don't have the comp here and was wondering if anyone could help me with with the info...thanks!

ChrisA,

Lorlin manufactures the switches in both 6mm and 1/4" dia shaft versions.

The one shown in:

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/LN-800005.pdf

is apparantly a 1/4" version (says ".250" on the drawing)
